ZTE announces its all Nvidia Mimosa X smartphone

CHINESE PHONE MAKER ZTE has announced its Mimosa X smartphone that will have two Nvidia chips.

The Mimosa X will be the first smartphone to use both an application processor and a baseband processor from Nvidia. It will come with Nvidia’s Tegra 2 chip and its Icera 450 HSPA+ modem.

He Shiyou, EVP and head of the terminal division at ZTE said, “The Tegra processor and Icera modem will play an important part in the development of the mobile handset market, and ZTE has worked closely with Nvidia to develop the Mimosa X smartphone in time for launch at this major global telecoms industry event.”

“We expect that the Tegra processor will have a big impact on the mainstream mobile communications world in the coming months and years,” he added.

ZTE said the Mimosa X will run Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It will come with a 4.3in qHD touchscreen, 4GB of internal storage, a 5MP rear facing camera and digital living network alliance (DLNA) technology.

Michael Rayfield, GM of mobile at Nvidia said, “The ZTE Mimosa X sets a milestone for the mobile computing industry. This is the first time that both Nvidia Tegra and Icera processors are powering a smartphone.”

ZTE said it will launch the Mimosa X in the second quarter. It will be on show at next week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona alongside its PF200 and N910 smartphones that it announced yesterday. µ
