A world-first at The National Media Museum – exhibition to explore the effects of the internet is due to open this month. Vizcom’s Daniel Robinson advises self-confessed computer illiterates to pay a visit to this innovative project, especially if they plan to launch their own companies online.
Bolton, Lancashire (PRWEB) March 14, 2012
The National Media Museum in Bradford will play proud host to the world’s first gallery which explores the internet. Comprising of multimedia exhibits and displays, the exhibition will trace the history of the World Wide Web, the evolution of trends and how its invent has impacted our lives.
Daniel Robinson, owner of Bolton web design company, Vizcom is eagerly anticipating the opening day. ‘This exhibition is a brilliant idea. Currently there are very few resources to learn so much, so quickly – especially those who are business owners that want to take their advertising, trading and operation to the next, digital level.’
Life Online is officially opening on the 30th March 2012. Situated in the heart of Bradford, West Yorkshire, The National Media Museum is headed by former BBC journalist Colin Philpott. The exhibition is a global first, providing a collection of interactive displays employed to teach visitors all about the internet from the first emails to the social networking of today.
‘Although other galleries tell the story of the internet,’ says Tom Woolley, the media curator at the National Media Museum, ‘no other links that ever evolving history with the impact that the internet has on our lives and we are very excited to house the world’s first gallery of its kind here in Bradford.’
Sponsors have funded the £2 million project with Virgin Media, brand agency Start JudgeGill and creative company Brass, The Galleries Improvement Fund, DCMS Wolfson Museums and Yorkshire Forward all investing.
‘I often meet business owners who want to progress by using the internet, but because they’re not au fait with technology they can feel apprehensive and overwhelmed,’ Says Daniel Robinson of Vizcom Web Design Bolton. ‘Life Online is the perfect way to learn a lot, quickly; it is very engaging.’
The permanent installation on the ground floor involves a timeline of the World Wide Web’s evolution. Visitors can learn all about the first computer networking systems and the pioneering programmers who created them, and watch the internet develop from a primitive infrastructure to an invaluable resource.
‘There’s a popular misconception that a day trip to a museum is tedious and boring, when in reality, that’s far from the truth.’ Says Daniel Robinson owner of Bolton Web Designers, Vizcom. ‘The Media Museum has been a popular attraction in Bradford for decades, and Life Online is an innovative examination of the World Wide Web.’
Visitors to Life Online can actively add their own content that will become a valuable record of our current relationship with the internet. The final area of the foyer installation concentrates about how it is permeating different aspects of our lives. Here visitors can digitally create artwork, look at current trends and see the latest ideas and prototypes. Computer viruses, the dot com boom and the online marketplace are also discussed.
‘It’s an excellent place to learn about the internet culture and online technology,’ says Daniel Robinson of Vizcom Web Design Bolton. ‘That’s essential to progress your company on the internet.’
The second floor exhibition plays host to a schedule of events and workshops where visitors of various ages can learn about all aspects of the internet. The first installation, [open source] explores the online sharing culture and the current debate over threats to internet neutrality.
‘A survey by BT in 2009 revealed that 50% of adults consider themselves computer illiterate,’ says Daniel Robinson. ‘I’ve been providing innovative website design in Bolton and around the UK since 1996, and one of the most popular comments is that the whole idea of the internet is overwhelming and there’s a lot to understand. This innovative, world-first exhibition provides an engaging look at the different aspects and encourages interaction. Business owners especially can improve their company performance in countless ways using the internet, and it’s such a shame that there’s still some apprehension.’
Vizcom offers website design Bolton and Manchester search engine marketing services. ‘There are plenty of business owners who are aware they at least need a company website to compete in the marketplace effectively. I’ve helped companies from both around the country and where I’m based in Manchester, search engine marketing is essential for your website to be effective. In my experience, not a lot of people are aware of this but it’s vital for your success.’
Life Online is due to open March 30th, with free admission for the ground floor exhibition. A programme of workshops and events in the first floor area is available and you can interact online now via their dedicated blog.
‘Whether you’re the owner of an established company or considering starting your own business, I’d strongly recommend giving the Life Online exhibition at The National Media Museum a visit or logging on at home to see what it’s all about.’ Daniel Robinson has worked in Website Design Bolton for a number of years, first forming Vizcom in 1996. ‘If you’re a self confessed technophobe, it’s a good place to start, and if you’re a regular internet user, it’s ideal for picking up inspiration for ways to promote your company across the World Wide Web.’

Adobe recently introduced Shadow, and no this is not a digital knock off of the famous 1930′s radio show The Shadow. But like the sleuths that our parents and grandparents enjoyed, Adobe’s Shadow helps users investigate and uncover complex narratives in their work.
This new tool is a web development utility that enables designers to preview their designs on multiple devices and test them simultaneously. It allows web designers to create websites using HTML, CSS and Javascript and ensure that they work properly on various devices and platforms. It is offered as a plugin for Android, iOS and Chrome on Windows and Mac OS X. [1]

With Shadow, users can highlight errors and experiment with their web design layouts while viewing them in real time, thereby reducing the development and testing time.
Adobe has made a beta version of Shadow available as part of Adobe Labs, which also houses other web design offerings like Adobe Edge and Muse. Shadow is yet another tool by Adobe which focuses on HTML 5 development as Flash becomes increasingly irrelevant in a post-PC world.
Adobe will launch the final version of Shadow along with Adobe Edge and Muse as part of the Creative Cloud bundle, which is expected to launch soon. Creative Cloud is Adobe’s new subscription-based offering which enables customers to access its Creative software products and also offers free online storage, synchronization between multiple devices and automatic upgrades.
We currently have a $34 Trefis price estimate for Adobe, which is in line with the current market price. Creative Software accounts for nearly 50% of its total value. Adobe competes primarily with Apple, Quark and Corel in the creative software market.
