Samsung said to be trying to forge a Tizen/Firefox OS partnership – Android Community

Reports suggest that Samsung is pursuing a partnership with Mozilla, hoping to bring Firefox OS together with Tizen. At a recent conference, Samsung’s Chief Secretary Wonsuk Lee, noted that a relationship between the two is possible. Not only is it possible, it’s technically feasible. Both operating systems are HTML5 based, meaning apps written for one app can be used for the other. That also means mobile apps for Chrome could be pinched, though those are currently not optimized for mobile. Both Tizen and Firefox are currently struggling to gain adoption, and foothold, in a crowded OS market. While both are said to be used for low-end devices, Tizen is also meant for higher-end offerings. That would give Mozilla an Read More

Ottawa scientists hack our body’s proteins to create a powerful new drug – Macleans.ca

Ottawa scientists have transformed one of the body’s natural proteins into what could become the basis for a powerful drug—one with the potential to treat a range of muscle-wasting diseases, according to Dr. Michael Rudnicki of the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute, who led the research. It’s the latest milestone in the booming field of regenerative medicine, which aims to use the body’s own building blocks to fix what ails us. “A new wave of therapeutics will be entering the clinic,” Rudnicki says, “drugs and proteins that target stem cells, and stimulate repair.” It’s happening already. Rudnicki’s team targeted a protein called Wnt7a, part of a family of proteins that stimulates stem cells and promotes tissue regeneration. “This class of Read More

The Kensington KeyFolio Pro for iPad Air updated the former KeyFolio Pro for iPad to make it fit the new size and thickness of the smaller lighter iPad Air released last month from Apple. We wanted to find out if the keyboard case could keep up its strengths to make it as compelling a keyboard case for the iPad Air as it was for the earlier generations. The new Kensington KeyFolio Pro for iPad Air covers the iPad in a soft sheepskin cover that feels great and looks good. We’re not fans of folio cases that hold the iPad by sliding into a compartment like the KeyFolio Pro instead of a back snapping onto the iPad. That’s a taste preference Read More

First iPad Mini vs. Retina: No contest – CNET

iPad Mini Retina. (Credit: Sarah Tew/CNET) The iPad Mini Retina’s speed seals the deal. A lot has been written about the Mini Retina’s display. For good reason, of course. Take a display with 786,432 pixels (iPad Mini original) and put it up against one with over 3 million (iPad Retina) and you notice the difference. But I have been more impressed with the performance of the Mini Retina. After using it for two weeks, the speed is what has sold me. The best analogy I can think of is going from a circa 2009 MacBook Air to today’s fastest Haswell-based MacBook. It’s that dramatic. Those numbers (below) don’t lie. The reason is pretty easy to understand. The iPad Mini has Read More
